Dalaman is an authentic Turkish town, with a recently improved infrastructure, and only a 10 minute drive from Dalaman İnternational Airport. İt is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding countryside and very close to some of the most fabulous beaches in Turkey. 6km long İztuzu (Turtle) beach in Dalyan is probably the most famous but Sarsala and Sarigerme beaches are both only a 20 minute drive from Dalaman.
Delightful Dalyan town is definitely worth exploring too. There are many shops to browse and you are spoilt for choice with cafes and restaurants - many of them situated along the riverbank with views of the Lycian rock tombs. The museum of Kaunos is a short walk on the other side of the Dalyan river and well worth a visit.
Göcek town is a cosmopolitan marina town with upmarket shops and restaurants and again only 20 minutes drive from Dalaman. From the quayside you can take boat tour of the 12 picturesque İslands nestling in the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean.
On the outskirts of Dalaman are many natural thermal springs for your health and wellbeing. Spend a day at the Therme Maris resort and experience many health-giving treatments or visit the free sulphur rich rivers and pools.
Dalaman's Thursday market is a fabulous way to while away a morning or afternoon. Buy fresh organic locally grown fruit and vegetables, local cheeses and handmade butter and browse the textile and household goods section.
Many shops, cafes and bistros line the streets of dalaman. Hire a bike or scooter to explore this typically Turkish town. One thing to note though, insurance cover would have to be within your travel insurance.
